One Partner Relationship Counseling
A male counselor cannot experientially grasp certain aspects of a woman’s journey in the same way that he does that of his male clients. So, there are times when a woman might consider it a better fit to see one of the three female clinicians in our office— Deborah Garren, Brianna Garrett, or Marissa Carter. At other times, however, when the counseling need is relationship-related, a male counselor may be sought out to help a woman better understand her husband—so that she can more clearheadedly navigate her marriage relationship. On occasion, it is the husband who comes first when the wife is not yet ready. It is not unusual for couples counseling to begin with one partner, and for one of our counselors to explore with that partner ways to encourage the other partner to see the value of eventually participating. Dr. Figley guides his interns on how to maximize the likelihood that the absent-from-counseling partner will eventually join the process.
