Although Dr. Figley’s values and perspectives are deeply influenced by his Christian faith, he knows that many couples come to see him independent of that aspect of who he is: Having chosen him strictly because someone recommended to them the helpfulness of his approach. Dr. Figley fully respects the autonomy of individuals and couples who come to see him from differing faith perspectives or with no faith perspective at all. And so, he does not overtly interject his Christian worldview into the counseling process. 

But Dr. Figley knows also that some individuals and couples come to see him because they desire a counselor who is equipped to integrate both psychology and faith into the process of making sense of why they feel stuck, and to help inform a game plan for their healing and growth. Dr. Figley’s earlier-adult-life pastoral training and experience prior to his mid-adult-life counselor training and experience equip him to function in this integrative role with couples who desire this.

Each of the licensed counselors and interns at Figley Counseling & Associates were trained in Christian counseling graduate programs, so each is equipped to integrate counseling principles and spiritual truth for those who desire that approach. But like Dr. Figley, each is respectful of the autonomy and worldview of their clients, and therefore will not seek to impose their own views on them.
